Common questions
How long does a hydraulic cylinder repair take?
It depends on what's worn and whether parts need machining from scratch. Straightforward jobs turn around quickly; a cylinder needing a new rod takes longer because we make the rod. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when we quote, not an optimistic one.
Is it cheaper to repair a cylinder or buy a new one?
Usually repair, and sometimes not. If the barrel is scored badly or the cylinder is small and common, a new one can work out cheaper. We'll tell you which way it falls before you commit — there's no value to us in quoting work that isn't worth doing.
Can you repair a cylinder if the manufacturer no longer exists?
Yes, and it's a lot of what we do. We measure the cylinder you have and machine replacement parts from that, so an obsolete unit is no harder for us than a current one.
Do I need a drawing?
No. Bring the cylinder in or send dimensions and photos. If a drawing exists it speeds things up, but most of what comes through the door arrives without one.
