We machine the gears
Most repair shops order the gear and wait. We machine gears in-house, which is what makes an obsolete gearbox worth repairing at all.
You get told what failed
We report what we found and why it went. If it's an alignment or loading problem, replacing the gear alone just buys you a few months.

Sometimes a rebuild costs more than a new unit. We'll say so rather than quote you for work that isn't worth doing.

Common questions
Can you repair a gearbox the manufacturer no longer supports?
Yes. That's often why a unit ends up here rather than being scrapped. If a gear or shaft isn't available any more we machine the replacement from the worn original, so an obsolete gearbox is no harder for us than a current one.
How do I know if it's worth repairing?
Strip it and find out — that's the only honest answer. We'll tell you what's wrong and what it costs, and if a new unit is cheaper we'll say so. There's no value to us in quoting a rebuild that doesn't make sense.
My gearbox is whining but still running. Should I wait?
Usually not. A noise that's developing is cheaper to deal with while the machine still runs than after it stops. Catching it early often means bearings and seals rather than gears and a housing.
Do you tell me why it failed?
Yes, as far as the evidence shows. If a gear is worn on one flank, or a bearing has gone in a particular way, that usually points at alignment or loading rather than the part itself — and fixing the part alone would just buy you a few months.
